I would like to learn french, but don’t know too many people that speak it. Do you normally drop the ‘S’ in most French words when speaking it. Like ‘Apres’ would be said A prey." What are the rules for learning French?
there are alot of books with CDs (which you can find @ your local library) that can help you learn the language, you can also search google for websites that offer free lesson.
if that is not your style then try lookin for a tutor.
hope that helps.

Most final vowels are dropped, except for c,r,f, and L. If the following word begins with a vowel then usually the final consonant of the previous word is pronounced. The biggest exception is ‘et’ (and) where the ‘t’ is never pronounced.
The silent ’s’ means that the plural of a word is indicated instead by the article in front of it. La (lah) and le (luh) mean ‘the’ for feminine and masculine, whereas les (lay) is the plural for both. L’homme (the man) is pronounced ‘loam’ and les hommes (the men) is pronounced ‘layz-ohm.’
Une/un, fem/masc ‘a’, become des (‘day(z)’) in the plural.

You usually do drop the ’s’ in most French words. You also usually don’t pronounce the ‘h’ in most french words. So it would be ‘opital’ instead of ‘hospital’.
I don’t believe there are any rules. The best way to learn is to actually go to France or another French speaking country. It’s an easy language to learn, but sometimes it can be hard. I never found the dictionary’s with the prounciation helpful. I always thought I was saying it wrong. The best way is to constantly talk to people who actually speak French. You’ll pick it up better that way. Even listening to books on tape in French will help.
